sanna house with kitchen / lounge / dining / extension, westmuir

Gary's design for the Sanna House property was constructed in 1999 on the southern edge of the village of Westmuir.

The new build dwelling house incorporates a fully open plan 1800 sq.ft living area on the ground floor providing three separate lounge spaces, both formal and informal dining areas and garden kitchen to take full advantage of the 270 degree views over the Vale of Strathmore to the south, east and west.

Careful design of windows and glazed door openings maximises the use of natural daylighting through the house allowing the interior to spill out into the surrounding garden and the wider landscape vista beyond.

The original four bedroom house was extended in 2013 with the addition of a 600 sq.ft. single storey kitchen / dining / and lounge space connecting the main house and the existing double garage; the extension is a super insulated double skin timber frame with locally sourced Scotlarch timber cladding as an external finish.

The new space allows level access to the new sunken garden terrace and takes full advantage of the south western aspect to the garden through three sets of glazed terrace doors.

A main feature in the western lounge of the main house has a Jetmaster open fire box installed providing the comfort of an open fire while being able to view falling snow through the western gable glazed doors to the garden.

Rather than replacing the original kitchen in situ, in 2012 construction was carried out to construct the 600 sq.ft. new kitchen / lounge / dining space to the north of the existing kitchen, while also connecting the main house into the double garage.

the new kitchen features gloss white handleless units with galley and central island worktops formed as single sections of slate grey Silestone quartz stone worktops; stainless steel Siemens and AEG appliances both pot wash and tea making sinks incorporating Minerva 3 in 1 boiling water tap.

the new space captures the best of both the eastern morning light and western afternoon sunlight with direct access to the terrace when the weather allows. highly insulated walls, roof and floors retain much of the solar gain captured by the windows and retained rooflights over the link between the new extension and the main house.
